ProCalc Allocate: a gas plant opened to its inlet streams and their wells

What Allocate does

In Canada, Allocate is the middle step of Production Accounting: what each gas plant sold and lost is handed back to every inlet stream in proportion to what it brought, product by product, and the result goes to Submit. For a US producer it allocates daily, from run tickets, LACT readings and well tests. Both run on the same record as the meters, so an allocation can be traced back to the volume it came from and the edit that produced it.

Inside Allocate

  • Daily, from the field

Run tickets, LACT readings and well tests come in; oil, gas, water and NGL are allocated to wells every day. A month is the sum of its days, not a separate calculation.

  • Plant to inlet streams

What each plant sold and lost, residue gas and each NGL component, goes back to its inlet streams in proportion to what they brought. Every column sums upward: wells to stream, streams to plant. An analysis past its interval or a recovery factor outside the plant range is flagged before anything is filed.

  • Monthly, through the network

Model the facilities as they connect. Fuel, flare and shrinkage are taken where they happen, and what is left is allocated to the wells that delivered it.

  • The method you use

Proration, theoretical, actual-to-theoretical, or your own, configured per facility and product.

  • Rerun, and see what changed

Correct a volume in Validate and the allocation reruns. Prior-period adjustments are calculated, not hand-worked, and the difference is shown.

  • Starts from Balance

Nothing is allocated that has not been through the balance check. The tolerance that passed is on the record with the allocation.

  • Then Submit and Revenue Accounting

Allocated volumes go to Submit for Petrinex and on to Revenue Accounting, or export to the system you already use.

On its own, or end to end

Allocate reads the shared data lake, so it can improve this one process while everything else connects by API or file — or run as part of the whole chain. About the ProCalc platform.

When we experienced a change in staffing, we decided to explore new options for measurement record keeping. Cost savings were a priority, especially since our previous supplier required not only an annual fee but also a mandatory upgrade charge and a lengthy implementation process. I wasn’t heavily…

The mobile chart scanning application on the phones is awesome. Late scanning and scanning errors are a thing of the past. All of my operators are thrilled with the ease of use and convenience of scanning the charts as they come off the readers.
